For those who like to make race-day decisions for their Active Pursuits, here’s a list of offerings to Sign Up. Line Up. And Go! this weekend.
John Jantz Memorial 5-mile S-No-W Fun Run: Based at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa (the former Playboy club) this 33-year-old race combines stiff competition with the style of Hugh Hefner and the playfulness of bunnies. The post-race fun starts on Saturday with a Schnapps stop at the finish line and rolls on with special dances for the men and women. Race-day registration is $40 and opens at 12:30 p.m. in the Forum, on Highway 50 east in Lake Geneva. The race starts at 2:30.
Waukesha Citizens Cross-Country Ski Race: Reports say the snow in Nashotah Park held up well enough for this popular citizens race on Saturday morning. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and costs $20 per person, or $40 for a family (plus a $4 parking fee). The 1-mile race for kids 10 and under starts at 10:30 a.m. and the 5K and 12K races for youths and adults starts at 11:30 a.m.
Rib Lake Snowshoe Adventure Run-Walk: A snowshoe outing in northern Wisconsin on Saturday would be an outstanding antidote to post-holiday stress. The 1K, 5K, and 10K races are part of the Braveheart Snowshoe Series. Registration costs $27 and opens at 9 a.m. at Camp Forest Springs, N8890 Forest La., in Westboro.
Candlelight Ski & Hike: Conditions should be excellent for the start of the candlelight ski, snowshoe and hike outings in Wisconsin State Parks. On Saturday, the candles and bonfires will be burning at Blue Mound, Devil’s Lake, Harrington Beach and Mirror Lake.
