For those who like to make race-day decisions for their Active Pursuits, here’s a list of offerings to Sign Up. Line Up. And Go! this weekend.
Run with the Turkeys 5K: Among the many events staged at the LakeView RecPlex in Pleasant Prairie, the 5K race loops through Prairie Springs Park on the shore of Lake Andrea. Registration ($25) opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday and the race starts at 9 a.m. Details can be found here. Expect to run with a fun group of costumed characters getting a head start on the holiday.
Hike Devil’s Lake: The staff at Devil’s Lake State Park will guide a hike on the steepest and toughest trails the park has to offer. Meet at the bird effigy mound near the south shore parking lots and climb the bluffs from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m on Saturday. More details can be found here.
Around the World in 5K: No celebration in Milwaukee is complete without a 5K run, and that adage applies to the annual Holiday Folk Fair at State Fair Park. This 5K run and walk on Sunday will showcase some of the international flair on display. Registration is $25 on race day and opens at 7:30 a.m. The run starts at 9 a.m. Click here for more details.
Kringle Kross: Hampshire Cycle Club hosts race number 12 in the Wisconsin Cycling Association Cyclocross Series in Hales Corners Park. The race serves as a local alternative to the three-day Jingle Cross in Iowa. The junior races start at 9 a.m. and the elite men cap the day at 2:45. For a mere $15, beginners will have a race of their own starting at noon. Check here for all the details.
Girls on the Run Fall 5K: More than 150 girls and dozens of volunteers will cap 12 weeks of training, coaching and encouraging with the first outdoor 5K organized by the Girls on the Run of Greater Milwaukee. The race in Greenfield Park on Sunday will be special for the GOTR participants, but is open to everyone. Registration on race day is $30. Check out the GOTR site for all the information.
