For those who like to make race-day decisions for their Active Pursuits, here’s a list of offerings to Sign Up. Line Up. And Go! this weekend.
Frostbite Road Race: With the race calendar full of Jingle Bell 5Ks, it’s nice to find a 10-mile race to put that summer fitness to proper use. The noon start time on Saturday is another draw for the road race sponsored by the Stevens Point Area YMCA. Registration is $25 and opens at 8 a.m. in the YMCA, 1000 Division St., in Stevens Point. For those traveling from Milwaukee, the race combines nicely with a stop in the Central Waters Brewery. Click here for details.
Milwaukee Santa’s 5K: Runners in Santa costumes will fill the Milwaukee Lakefront, in this 5K organized to benefit Playworks Milwaukee. The 5K starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in McKinley Park, 1750 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., and registration ($38) opens at 8. Click here for more details.
CamRock Fire Festival: CamRock Cafe & Sport hosts a day of bonfires, hiking and biking on the expanded trails in CamRock County Park in Cambridge. The CamRock Fire Festival opens with coffee at 7 a.m. and continues with yoga, spin classes and beer tasting into the night. Check out the details here.
Booty Cross: My wife rightly gave me a skeptical look when I shared my plan to race an event called the Booty Cross, on Sunday. It’s nothing to worry about. Just another outing in the Wisconsin Cycling Association Cyclocross Series, and the last test before the state and regional championships. Racing opens with the juniors at 9 a.m. in Hiestand Park, off Wittwer Rd., in Madison. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and fee details can be found here.
Milwaukee Area Bike and Ski Swap: This could be considered a race for bargains, in the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee student union, 2200 E. Kenwood Blvd. The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin helps organize this annual sale of bikes and gear, and proceeds from the $5 admission fees help support the Milwaukee Bicycle Collective. The sale is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Details can be found here.
