The corporate challenge race that pits workers from area companies in a 5K run will move from the industrial Menomonee Valley to the white-collar Schlitz Park office complex for its third edition, on Sept. 19.
Sponsored by the corporate wellness firm, Salus Inc., the Schlitz Park Corporate Challenge rewards not only the fastest working runners, but the company that builds the most participation among its employees. Total Mechanical Inc., Willis of Wisconsin and Synergy Strategic Fitness took home the trophies from the race along Canal St. in May.
The move to Schlitz Park builds on the wellness initiatives promoted by the office development’s management.
“All of these events demonstrate that Schlitz Park and downtown are not only great places to take care of business, but also your health and wellbeing,” said developer Gary Grunau. “Health and wellness offerings are important amenities that attract and retain tenants and employees to downtown and Schlitz Park.”
In addition to the Salus Corporate Challenge, the office park will once again host the Schlitz Park Miler, the only on-road, one-mile race in the Milwaukee area. The mile run will be part of the Tour of America’s Dairyland Schlitz Park Criterium bike race on June 25.
Scott Mueller won the inaugural mile in four minutes, 29 seconds last year, and Holly Nearman paced the women’s field in five minutes, 12 seconds. Check out the coverage here.
Miler organizers will pay a $100 bonus to any runner who breaks those course records, providing a chance to double the $100 winner’s prize.
Registration for both races is open: $10 for the Miler and $20 for the Corporate Challenge, through March 1. Proceeds from the Miler will benefit DreamBikes Milwaukee, and the Salus Schlitz Park Corporate Challenge will support the Milwaukee Riverkeeper.
