A couple readers, Charlie Dee and Mike Healy, alerted me about the reconstruction and reroute on a popular stretch of the Oak Leaf Trail in the Underwood Parkway, after they found traffic cones and barricades blocking the path south of Blue Mound Rd. this week.
Milwaukee County is replacing the asphalt from Blue Mound to W. Fairview Ave., and the connection to S. 120th St. Tthis portion of the Oak Leaf connects with the western terminus of the Hank Aaron State Trail. The work is scheduled to be finished in late September.
The detour is a bit confusing and the county plans to add more signs to guide trail users. Riders going south are advised to follow Blue Mound Rd. east to S. 121st St., continue south a few blocks to W. Fairview Ave. and go west to return to the trail. Riders going north will do the reverse – taking Fairview to S. 12st St. and reconnecting to the trail on Blue Mound Rd.
