The race to secure a spot in the 2013 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon started at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
In recent years, the 3,100 registration slots in the popular run filled by late April, and new race director Jon Mueller has maintained the field limit for the 33rd annual event. Mueller, a local chiropractor, follows Kristine Hinrichs, who expanded the Lakefront Marathon and added a pre-race expo during her 12 years in charge.
“It is a tremendous honor to lead this world-class event, and I know I have big shoes to fill in what Kris did,” Mueller said. “We’ve done our best tore-assemble a great organizational team. To our runners, the experience will continue to remain among the best on the Wisconsin and national marathon circuit.”
The 2013 Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon will be held on Oct. 6. Registration is $75.
For those checking their calendars, the Lakefront for 2013 will be run the same day as the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon and the week before the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Registration for the Twin Cities Marathon opens Feb. 2, with a starting price of $105. Registration for the Chicago Marathon opens Feb. 19 and comes with a hefty price tag $175.
