Authorities in the Fox Valley are awaiting the findings of a crash reconstruction by the Wisconsin State Patrol to guide their decision whether to issue citations or criminal charges against the 19-year-old motorist.
According to news accounts, the woman from Little Chute collided with James Weiss as he pedaled through an intersection in Kimberly about 12:15 a.m. on July 28. Weiss, the 46-year-old manager of the Liberty Hall Banquet and Conference Center, suffered head injuries and died Saturday.
He is the fifth cyclist in the state to be killed this year in a crash involving a motor vehicle. At the same point in 2011, the Department of Transportation had recorded six cyclist fatalities.
Prosecutors have issued felony charges in two of the fatal crashes, one in Eau Claire and one near Mosinee. District attorneys in Waukesha and Sheboygan County are reviewing two other cases.
