Northestern Mutual and GE Healthcare are two of the biggest companies in the Milwaukee area; and two of the fastest.
The men’s team from Northwestern Mutual defended its title in the 5K Salus Schlitz Park Corporate Challenge by beating the rain and the squad from GE Healthcare. Their victory margin was just one second.
The women from GE, though, stepped up for their company honor and took home the top prize as the fastest women’s squad. Artisan Partners broke the GE/NML dominance by winning the mixed-team division.
Diana Widmer, from GE, posted the fastest overall time (19:16) in the female category, helping boost her team to victory. The men’s overall winner was Jason Smith, from US Bank, who finished in 16:07.
Speed isn’t the only measure of success in this unique corporate 5K. Companies compete for awards based on total number of employees participating and percentage of employees who run, walk or stroll over the 5K course just north of Downtown.
Every worker at Integrated Risk Solutions Inc. participated in the 5K, and that 100% score secured the small company participation crown for the Waukesha-based firm.
General Electric had the most participants with 123, and it could have used one more fast runner from the 5,900 GE workers who didn’t show up.
Overall, close to 800 employees from more than 40 companies enjoyed the outing based in the Schlitz Corporate Park, and benefited from the training plans and wellness resources offered through the challenge.
