The members of the Northern Kettle Moraine Nordic Ski Club could be accused of arrogance for calling the Greenbush Trails near Plymouth their “Nordic Heaven.”

They might be more guilty of understatement.
Five inches of fresh snow, covering the trails and gleaming in the trees, created some of the best classic ski conditions that I can remember. The tracks I found on Sunday were firm and deep. The cold temperature made waxing simple and the kick ample. The bright sun cast long shadows deep into the kettles and across the ridges.

Ski conditions further south, at Lapham, Nordic and McMiller have been marginal to good, as the heavier snow over the past week tracked further to the north and west. Greenbush and Zillmer, both in the Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest, have the best conditions within 90 minutes of Milwaukee, based on the online trail reports.
Trails in central Wisconsin also received a healthy batch of fresh snow on Friday and Saturday, making for excellent conditions at Reforestation Camp in Green Bay and the Iola Winter Sports area, in Iola.
