With more than a week left before the inaugural Drumstick Dash 5K at State Fair Park, more than 1,600 people have registered for the chance to run around the Milwaukee Mile race track and support Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

Contributions generated from entries in the Thanksgiving Day race total $3,500 to date, equal to 17,500 meals provided by the local charity. The goal for the inaugural Drumstick Dash is 25,000 meals from cash contributions and donations of non-perishable food items.
Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin lists peanut butter, cereal and snack bars, tuna, canned vegetables, juice and canned fruit, pasta and rice, and soup among the food items it will be collecting on race-day. Donation bins will be set up at the registration area.
Online registration for the Dash will close at 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 20. An early registration and packet pick-up will be open at State Fair Park on Wednesday, the 21st, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Race-day registration fees will be $40 for adults and $25 for children ages 5 to 12.
In its first year, the Drumstick Dash will likely be one of the largest Thanksgiving Day runs in the area, trailing the Berbee Derby in Fitchburg, which draws more than 5,000 participants in the 10K and 5K races.
